The yard said: "remove with electric tools the base in wood and cut all the way around the floor plates near the base, we have to do a space between the plates".

Based on this it sounds to me that they would cut in the cabin sole so the mast has freedom to move up and down.

Regarding the hull compression, maybe the best is to get it checked by a specialist?

Hello White Hawk. Not sure whether you ever got the answer you needed on this, but I have just met a GS46 owner in Fiji who has done alot of work on his boat. He may have done this mast step rebuild. I can put you in contact. He is Italian and speaks very little English. We managed to get by in French, but google translate would also do the job...
